Description(Paris: J. Hetzel, 1843) Quarto; [2 ff.] 4, 170 pp. [1 f.], plus plates; original publisher's gilt-stamped illustrated green morocco.

Fantasy illustrations. First edition, with illustrations after Johannot, who collaborated with the writers of the text, Stahl [i.e., Hetzel] and de Musset. There are 63 full-page plates after Johannot, and numerous vignettes. The primary engravers are Brugnot, Andrew Best Leloir, Brevière, Dujardin, Piaud, Quartley, and Williams, among a number of others. This copy is still in its original illustrated publisher's binding.
