野のお通に遣へし千代といへる女也 文の通にもうとからす 情あるものなり のち夫にわかれてより 心ミだれ 一巻の文を箱に入れ 首にかけて 山の木かげ 又月の夜ハ五条の橋の辺なとに 彼文を高らかによミなどし 獨言いひて狂ひあるきけり

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
