Inscriptions前右兵衛佐源頼朝は承暦元年より伊豆の国に配流となり 十四年の春秋を送り給ひけるうち 伊東入道の娘に馴れそめ 人しれずふかき中とそなりける 此事入道の耳に入 うしなひ奉るべきを祐清か忠義によつて北条か館に入 御頼ありて終に時政が婦女と籍に相馴給ひける 是なん後に御台所と仰かれ給ひ 頼朝公没後尼将軍と恐れしは此姫君の事なりける

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
