DescriptionStation 03.

Nurse Masaoka, a major female role in kabuki, is the devoted nanny of the young lord Tsuruchiyo, who she is bringing up together with her own little son. When her own child is killed, she must feign indifference in order to uncover the evil plot against the Date clan.
There are two different kabuki plays dealing with the story: Date Kurabe Okuni Kabuki and Meiboku Sendai Hagi.

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
