たゞたのめ六ぞくともに大悲をバ
神門にたちてたすけ玉へる
奉額 稲妻や人といふ字を水にかく
巫女の神託
当寺ハ往昔神社にて大なる榊左右より空に枝を/つらねて恰も楼門のごとくなりしかハ/神門といひしが其社退転して/跡なくなりしを後年所の長里人/を集めて再建を談じけるゆへ/まづ神楽を奏しけるに/巫女に移りて神託/ありけるにハ此地/必神社を建る/ことなく梵刹を/立るときハなが/栄へんと告あるに/よつて観音の霊場となせしかバ告のごとく/今にいたつて利生あらたか也それ神と仏ハ水波のへたちにて/両部内証ハ一致にて慈悲深重の誓ひ何をか分たん/しかれバ神を敬ふものハ必仏を信じて利益を蒙るへきもの也

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
