むかしよりたつとも知らぬ今宮へ
 まゐる心は浄土なるらん

奉額 此所ハ八大竜王の社地なるときゝて
 祈らぬは猶も貴し夏の雨

武田信玄の家臣 石原宮内

当山の霊験数多ある/なかに信玄の家臣山形/三郎兵衛の組下なる/石原宮内ハ常に/観音を信じ軍/法にもくわしき者/なりしが時田合戦の/とき軍配をくり違ひしにや/進退わろきゆへ信玄大に/怒りて忽備へを立直して終に/勝利となりしが後日宮内某の備へにて/負にハならず信玄公の短慮なりと人に/語りしこと信玄の耳に入り殊の外に/腹立て軍法の備へハたとへ陳平/張良とて繰損じハあるものなれバ/咎めも言付ざるものをよしなき/言葉をもつて主に疵をつくる/段不届なりこれによつて/死罪に定めらる其日ハ/既に十七日なれバ宮内は/他念なく観音を信じて翌日/御縁日死ぬことせめての/たのみと覚悟してけるに/その夜/信玄の夢に/十歳ばかりなる/小坊主来りて/吾は今宮のもの/宮内をひとへに/助け給へと/あれバ/仏勅を/感じて急ぎ/山形に命じて/助けしのみならず/近習へ召出して恩賞を/賜りしこと誠に/有がたき/霊験なり

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
