ひたすらにたのみをかけよ大慈寺
 六のちまたの苦(く)にかはるべし

奉額 花で実のさだめはしれぬひさごかな

摂州の儒士

当所に摂州より来りし儒者の/住けるが因果応報をしらず/たゞ仏道を詈り僧を/賊のごとくに辱しめ/けるに或時この本尊/老僧となりて彼が/家におもむき談/話に及びけれバ儒士/大に悦んで仏法をさんざんに/排し普門品の偈に羅刹鬼国の/文あるがそハ何れにあるや是皆偶言なれバ/更に益なしと讒しけれバ僧笑つて曰吾仏教の/深理汝等ごとき腐儒のしるところにあらずと/答へけれバ居丈高になりて満面朱のごとくにして/鍔元をくつろげ汝無法の入道サアらせつ/きこくは何れにあるや疾見せよ見せずハ/虚言なりと既にうちかゝらんとするとき手先を/如意にてたゝき給ひそれ汝が問らせつきこくハ/則汝がその忿怒のさまをいふなりと/笑つて失ぬ儒士たちまち此一言にて/さとり僧を拝せんとすれども見へず/これによつて此堂の傍に家を転じて/仏道を信じけれバその後/霊験を蒙りたりとなり

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
