たヾたのめまことのときはさいぜんじ
きたりむかへんみだの三尊
奉額 靡けとや弥陀の左右に花柳
唄念仏(うたねんぶつ)
当寺の本尊は/恵心僧都の/作にして又弥陀の/三尊もあり今はむかし/兵乱屡おこりて神社/仏閣も廃衰せしとき/一人の旅僧来りて/里人にむかひて/当寺の詠哥ハ何と/いふと聞々けれバ取あへず/大音に節をつけて唄ひおハりて/かくの如く面白くむかしハうたひて/順礼せしとおしゆ旅僧悦びてあら/かしこしその順礼哥ハ他に勝れ/たれバ忘るゝことなかれ最早/兵乱もしづまりて太平/に復し永く仏乗/起る也としめして失/せ給ふは是円通大士/の応化に在せバ/間もあらず/泰平となりて繁昌/すること不思議の/霊験なり

ProvenanceBy 1911, purchased by William Sturgis Bigelow (b. 1850–d. 1926), Boston [see note 1]; 1911, gift of Bigelow to the MFA. (Accession Date: January 19, 2005)
NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
