Inscriptions関の地蔵尊再興のとき一休和尚に開眼を乞ければ犢鼻褌(ふんどし)をときて地蔵の首にまとひし事は世に傳えて知るところなり 高須の遊君地獄といふ女一休を尊信して信觧(しんげ)を請る 其始連歌問答のことは事繁ければここに誌(しる)さず その面影 (かたち)を図する

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
