Description(New York: Redfield, 1856) 32.5 cm; [1 f.] 8 pp. [29 ff.], plus 30 plates; original publisher's pictorial paper boards.

First edition of these illustrations, for a short novel by Sylvester Judd (b. 1813 - d. 1853). Though cited on the title as "engraved" by Huber, they are pen lithographs (individual plates inscribed "engraved on stone"). Most of the plates are also inscribed "Sarony & Co.;" some carry "Sarony, Major, & Knapp" imprint. The copyright notice on the title is by J. S. Redfield.
Provenance1890, Sylvester Rosa Koehler (b. 1837 - d. 1900; cf. Lugt 1580), Boston, and Littleton, NH; 1898, gift of Koehler to the MFA. (Acquisition Date: October 20, 1898)

NOTE:
Koehler was the first Print Curator at the MFA and served from 1887 until his death in 1900. He deposited the majority of his collection at the MFA in 1895-1896. The gift of Koehler's collection was accepted by the Trustees of the MFA on October 20, 1898.
