奥山に もみぢふみわけ なく鹿の こえきくときぞ 秋はかなしき
箱王丸ハ母のはからひにて 桑門させんと 箱根山へ登せしに 祐経代参に来り 初て対面をなし 赤木造の短刀を引出物とす 其時僅八才なるが 心中に思ひけるハ 父の怨 己成人するならば 一万との心をあハせ 怨を討べしと 遂に下山なし 兄弟ともに艱苦し 後裾野にて本望を達し 英名をとどろかす

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
