Inscriptions「じやうがハ月宮殿へかよふ仙女なり。その姿を人形に作り、車のうへにすゑたれバかく名つく」 「又ぞろ事ふりし細工物とおぼしめしも恐入候へども、是ハ世にありふれし機巧（カラクリ）とハ同（ひと）しからず、木にてつくりし牛に人力をそへずして車をひかする工夫なり。その図ハ左りに略あらハし、其おほきさハ上におほむね記すが如く、車のやかたハいふもさらなり、ろうらん、欄間からはふ柱にいたるまで悉（ことごとく）木ぼりの手を尽させ、紙ばり、うす板のかるきを用ひず、およそ二千貫目にあまる車にかの木牛二疋をかくれバ、ゆるやかにめぐらし、きふにひく事、いける牛にことならず。是耕作、うんさうのたすけにせんとて、年ごろ□斎が巧（たくみ）おいたるに、よそほひをそへたるにて、糸とり車、ひもうち車にいたるまでミな実用をなすべき器なれば、一度は光駕をめぐらされ、御高覧の程、偏ニ奉希候。座元」

[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
