明治1年9月、大坂、筑後芝居「お染久松色読販(おそめひさまつうきなのよみうり)」。嵐璃寛はこの狂言で、お染、久松、お六(ろく)、奥女中竹川(おくじょちゅうたけかわ)など七役を演じた。四代嵐璃寛は女方(おんながた)の名優で立役(たちやく)も兼ねた。 -- 武藤 純子K

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
