文久1年10月、大坂、角の芝居、前狂言「本朝廿四孝」奥庭の場、通称狐火(きつねび)の場。武田勝頼を助けたい八重垣姫は、武田家の奥庭にある諏訪明神の神体法性(しんたいほうしょう)の兜を身につけ、狐に助けられながら、凍った諏訪湖を渡って、勝頼に急を知らせる。中判錦絵5枚組の内。五行の「木、火、土、金、水」のシリーズ画の1図。 -- 武藤 純子K

NOTES:
[1] Much of Bigelow's collection of Asian art was formed during his residence in Japan between 1882 and 1889, although he also made acquisitions in Europe and the United States. Bigelow deposited many of these objects at the MFA in 1890 before donating them to the Museum's collection at later dates.
