DescriptionThe face is dark green, with inlaid eyes of polished limestone. The blue wig is bordered in yellow with red hatching. An elaborate double collar, painted red, yellow, black, blue, and green, covers the chest. Body painted white to indicate linen wrappings.
ProvenanceProbably about 1950s/1960s, acquired in Egypt by Richard E. S. Maxson (b. 1925 - d. 1975), Amherst, MA [see note]; to his daughter, Kathryn Maxson-Silberstein, Sherborn, MA; 1988, sold by Kathryn Maxson-Silberstein to the MFA. (Accession Date: January 20, 1988)
NOTE: RIchard Maxson was a renowned world traveler and tour leader who acquired works of art on his various trips. In 1960 he opened his collection to the public in what was called the World Travel Museum in Amherst, MA. He later opened the Treasury of Travel Museum (North Amherst, MA) and the World Museum (Northfield, MA) to showcase his collection.
