DescriptionLarge silverplated urn with a round foot decorated with band of leafage; reel baluster stem; large urn with band of grape leaves at base and at top; spigot extends from lower band of leaves and is fitted with an inverted-lyre-shaped handle; detachable lid with bezel rising to cast eagle with spread wings and with talons grasping a globe, with cast leafage below.
Marks Marked on underside of urn with Gleason & Sons "Massachusetts State Seal" mark. "32" scratched into underside of lid.
Inscriptions"32" scratched on undersid of lid; modern paper sticker with "1295" in blue ink affixed on underside of lid, along with a second sticker inscribed in blue ink, "6276/1295;" modern sticker affixed inside urn reads, "D651 [or 0651] [in blue ink] /111 [in red ink]."
ProvenanceEarly history unknown; purchased at auction (possibly a Northeast Auction) by Jonathan Fairbanks about 1999.
