Like the mobiles made by his contemporary, sculptor Alexander Calder, Smith's jewelry often included freely moving parts, like the dangling boomerang shapes on this neckpiece. Smith was intrigued by movement of jewelry in relation to the movements of the wearer's body, and believed that his jewelry was not entirely complete except when worn.
DescriptionC-shaped silver necklace with three boomerang-shaped elements each with a pierced oval opening, two are suspended below from hoop links, one is stationary.
