DescriptionThis is a large planchet Pine Tree Shilling, made on a rocker press like the Willow and Oak Tree precursers. It is the variety with the bullet before and the rosette after the IN in the obverse inscription, which also has four long "roots" angled to the right beneath the tree. This example is a late striking because it exhibits advanced die-breaks horizontally across the reverse die, especially between the 1 and 6 of the date and extending from the 2 through the N of AN in the inscription.
