DescriptionThis small planchet Pine Tree Shilling is #19 in Noe's sequence. The characteristics of this variety are the faint "roots" angled to the left beneath the tree, the fact that the tree points slightly to the right of the V in the inscription, and the small S's in MASATHVSETS, where the first one is much fatter at the bottom. The reverse shows advanced wear and breaking of the die, especially through the center of the denomination and at the bottom around the inscription. An earlier state of this reverse die can be seen on Noe #16 (01.4957).
