DescriptionLong neckpiece (or breastplate) composed of flat silver with floral surface engraving and two cast elements. There are two alternating horizontal sections connected to two pairs of vertical sections with large, flat links. The first roughly horizontal elementis pierced to hold red yarn. The central horizontal element bears a cast image of human head with deeply inset eyes and a prominent nose. At lowest portion is a roughly circular element that is pierced to hold a cast human figure with arms and legs outstretched. Four rounded star-like elements hang below.
ProvenancePurchased in January 1988 in the market place of Tumuco, 600 miles south of Santiago, Chile, by the dealer; to MFA October, 27, 1994, purchase.
