According to British designer Thomas Sheraton, a girandole mirror was "a circular convex glass in a gilt frame" that reflected rays of light to produce "an agreeable effect." This girandole is surmounted by an eagle and mythological dolphins and, like most examples, is fitted with sconces on either side of the glass.
