DescriptionThe pole of this fire screen has a vase finial and is a single piece doweled into the vase-and-baluster turned pillar. Each leg of the tripod base has a slight ridge which develops at the knee and runs to the faceted foot, which has a slightly protuding pad. The underside of the legs and the pillar are notched. There is a simple oval mahogany screen with beaded edge, and with a spring retainer on the upper sliding ring. Below the screen is a shelf, which slides on two rings, the upper with a spring retainer. The shelf is a half-octagon in form and has an applied bead around the edge. It is formed of two pieces, and folds down when the small iron supporting bracket is swung aside.
