This remarkable card table and its mate, displayed nearby, are masterpieces of Neoclassical design. Made for Elias Hasket Derby, the tables may have stood in the magnificent mansion that Samuel McIntire designed for Derby on the corner of Essex and Front streets, in Salem. The crisply carved cornucopias, flower garlands, and grape clusters relate to carved decoration by McIntire on other Derby-family furniture. This table is set with counters and reproduction playing cards for the popular game of loo.
