Like high chests, dressing tables were a new form introduced to bedchambers about 1690. Often made en suite, high chests and dressing tables provided much-needed storage space in colonial homes, which rarely had closets. In the Baroque style, the front and top of the dressing table was covered with a thin veneer of burled walnut that adds movement, texture, and drama.
