Many of Copley's patrons owned costly household objects, including silver and such impressive examples of Boston furniture as this blockfront, mahogany desk fitted with large brasses and standing on graceful, hairy-paw feet. Merchants and ministers often owned such desks, whose interiors are fitted with drawers and pigeonholes to house documents and writing materials.
