Beginning in the late 1960s, Tetsuya’s decades-long series of prints

capture and date personal moments both every day and historic. His work

is usually a combination of different processes. Here, he begins by taking

a photograph and then both draws on and whites out elements before

scanning the result in a mimeograph machine to produce a stencil. He

then silkscreens the image onto a sheet of handmade Japanese paper and

applies color and shading using wood block techniques. The final work is

both precise and diffuse, much like memory accessed over time.
