This chest was made in two cases to facilitate its movement in the relatively small rooms and staircases of a seventeenth- or early-eighteenth century house. Its moldings and drawer arrangement are characteristic of examples made in Boston and the surrounding area. Here, the deep drawer in the upper case is embellished with raised moldings, with two octagons on each side of the drawer.
