DescriptionThe panels of this chest with two drawers are carved with the so-called tulip and sunflower pattern. There are large accents of punched decoration on the leaves, and the spreading tulips of the side panels are decoratively gouged. The panels are seperated with pairs of applied split spindles with bulbous bases, and are flanked on the ends with single flat-topped spindles.The two drawers are divided by pairs of small spindles into two sections, each of which is a molded octagon with oval bosses set diagonally so as to form a pattern between the two drawers. Heavy moldings divide the sections of the case, and the ends of the stiles form the feet. The sides have octagonal panels with a single oval boss above two smaller octagonal panels. The lid is a single molded board with cleats, staple-hinged. There is a till.
The lid, back panels, and bottom are pine. The drawer bottoms are set longitudinally as are those of the bottom, while the bottom of the upper chest is of three transverse planks. The upper panel of the back is inset, while the lower is applied.
