DescriptionShrine of Maatmenraemheb and his wife Weretnofret. The couple stand side-by-side on a platform within a slightly arched niche. The sides and back of the shrine's exterior are carved in sunk relief with representations of other family members. This shrine was originally placed in front of the large granite stele of Neferhotep at Abydos.
ProvenanceFrom Abydos, cemetery G. 1900: excavated by William Matthew Flinders Petrie and Arthur Cruttenden Mace for the Egypt Exploration Fund, assigned to the Egypt Exploration Fund in the division of finds by the government of Egypt, received by the MFA through subscription to the Egypt Exploration Fund.
