DescriptionEarth-red clay and slip. Jar's widest point relatively low, neck turns in to mirror lower form and to form an opening about one-third the diameter. Four large, white hooked shapes encircle upper half with elongated black triangles swooping from behind. Black grid with a dot in each square on white ground below hook. Unbroken black line encircles vessel just below imagery.
ProvenanceAbout 1900/1920, said to have been given to a patent attorney working with Native Americans in the Southwest or to his daughter, Margo Dawson; given by Margo Dawson to the mother of Joseph Elkins; 1994, sold by Joseph Elkins to Dewey Galleries, Ltd., Santa Fe, New Mexico; 1995, sold by Dewey Galleries to the MFA.
