DescriptionThe raised porringer has convex sides, an everted rim, and a stepped and high-domed base. One center point appears inside bowl; two appear outside. The cast keyhole-style handle is soldered at right angles to the rim. Five closely grouped dents and a second group of two dents appear on the side.

Under handle, within a rectangle, marked "Henchman" in upper and lower case.
InscriptionsOn handle, engraved I * P / to / H * P" in shaded roman letters facing bowl.
ProvenanceUnverifiable history of ownership in the family of John Quincy Adams, by descent to a member of the Beckwith family, who sold it to the donor.
