"Knight, Death, and the Devil" is one of three Dürer engravings traditionally known as the master engravings (along with "Melencolia I" and "St. Jerome in His Study"). The rider is believed to be a representation of the virtuous, steadfast Christian knight whom Death and the Devil are unable to distract or waylay.
