DescriptionOne of a pair (with 2001.31.1a-b). Oval form resting on four scroll feet ending in stylized shells. Hinged double-scroll handles at either end. The domed cover with a double-scroll handle that can be unscrewed. One side of the cover engraved with the royal arms within the Orver of the Garter, flanked by the initials GR (George II).
Marks No. 1 Struck under base and on interior of cover with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter for 1726-7) and with maker's mark of Paul Crespin under base. No. 2 Struck under base and on cover flange with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter of 1726-7) and with maker's mark of Paul Crespin under base.
InscriptionsThe royal arms are those borne by George II.
