The initials "AJ" that are engraved on the spoon may stand for Anna Joy (b. 1799), or her step-brother, Andrew Eliot Joy (b. 1808) children of sea captain Captain Mezar Joy (1758-1817) and his second wife Ann Eliot (1765-1799) and third wife, Mary Eliot (1775-1842/3), respectively.
