DescriptionWeather vane in the form of a horse, with figure in the full round, composed of five separate sections of cast iron, held together with flathead iron screws. Five sections include: 1) entire left half of the horse, including the foreleg; in full round form and the outside half of hind leg; 2) entire right half of the horse, including outside halves of the fore and hind legs; 3) inside half of right fore leg; 4) inside half of left hind leg; 5) inside half of right hind leg. The tail is cut from sheet iron, about 1/16 in. thick, and is held in place between castings 4 and 5 with the same flathead iron screws.
ProvenanceIn the collection of the New York folk art dealer Edith Halpert of the Downtown Gallery, before March of 1954; purchased in 1954 for the Museum by the collector Maxim Karolik.
