DescriptionFlaring lip, bulbous body ornamented in repousse, six panels of conventionalized tulips on matted ground, three rows of punched dots above, two spaced below. Flat depressed bottom (repaired). Two cast scroll handles with bead and leaf ornament.
Marks IH jevice below in heart and RS hollow sun above in shaped punch, on bottom

ProvenancePossibly made for Beriah Bright (b. 1649), m. Isaac Fowle; by decent to their grandson Rev. William Smith, m. Elizabeth Quincy, granddaughter of Rev. John and Mary Norton; by descent to their daughter Abigail, m. John Adams; descended to Mrs. Strafford (Margaret LeMoine) Wentworth, from whom the piece was bought by Philip Leffingwell Spalding; 1919, lent by Philip Spalding to the MFA; 1924, returned to Spalding; 1928, relent by Spalding to the MFA; 1940, transfered to Mrs. Spalding; 1942, gift of Mrs. Spalding and children to MFA.
