DescriptionIn 1815 the mint had no copper planchets to make large cents and none are believed to exist. This coin is an 1845 example that has had its 4 modified to appear as a 1. If it had actually been made in 1815 the obverse would be something between Reich's "Classic type" and the first Coronet type by Scot--not Gobrecht
1 Cent, 1815. OBV: seven stars dex. and six sin. around nude bust of Liberty left, wearing diadem (fillet) inscribed LIBERTY; date below. REV: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around ONE-CENT- within laurel wreath. Pellet over N of CENT. Edges plain.
