In the 1970s Poons's paintings emphasize the creation of a thickly built-up surface. He poured large amounts of paint onto this canvas to form a dense, swirling mass of intermingled lavender, yellow, and varied greens that covers much of the surface. Deep cracks, which probably occurred during drying, reveal even more colors below, while the splattering of the bare canvas at the edges suggests the energy with which the paint was applied. Golden paint adds a metallic sheen in many areas of the painting, notably at the bottom and left side.
