DescriptionBiomorphic, spherical form of pitcher, with broad, flat handle that extends in an arc close to the vessel body and widens as it attaches seamlessly to rim. Downturned, trefid shape of spout is also biomorphic in shape.
Marks Molded into form is the maker's mark "STERLING CHINA" in sans serif letters, and below in script "Russel / Wright."
ProvenanceThe donor's grandfather, Glayde Coleman, worked at the Sterling China factory, and probably acquired the pitcher and plate while employed by the company; to his son, Andrew J. Coleman, and his wife, Dorothy Smith Coleman, m. about 1936; to Elizabeth Anne Coleman; to MFA 2002, gift of Elizabeth Anne Coleman.
