NOTES:
[1] Attributed to an unknown artist of the French school, 18th century, possibly the studio of Drouais. [2] The pastel was exhibited by Cailleux in 1923 and 1927 with an attribution to Nattier (thanks to Olafur Thorvaldsson for his assistance with this research). See Pastels Français des XVII et XVIII siècles (Paris and Brussels, 1927), p. 49, cat. no. 24. It was accesssioned by the MFA as the work of Nattier.
