In a letter from Lucerne Fine Art, Ltd. to W. G. Constable of the MFA (January 7, 1954), Fritz Steinmeyer states that Hoyt bought the painting in March 1927 in America. Hoyt retained the invoice, however, which gives a sale date of November 18, 1926, with the payment received (signed by Steinmeyer) December 20, 1926.
