Loiseau drew inspiration from the late work of Pissarro and the Neo-Impressionist painters Seurat and Signac. As the short but fluid strokes of this composition suggest, he adopted a modified version of pointilliste technique. Loiseau traveled throughout France but was particularly drawn to Normandy, where the Eure River, a tributary of the Seine, runs its placid course. This view of a bend in the Eure, with no sign of human habitation in sight, uses thickly impasted strokes in the foreground to suggest lush riverine vegetation.
