[1] According to notes in the curatorial file, annotations in a copy of a Sedelmeyer Gallery catalogue (held by the RKD in The Hague) indicate that this painting was sold by Dowdeswell to Sedelmeyer on June 15, 1896 for 10,175 francs and by Sedelmeyer to Francis Bunker Greene of Boston on September 20, 1900, for 20,000 francs. It was exhibited by Sedelmeyer in 1896 as "Portrait of a Lady," with a pendant, "Portrait of a Gentleman." See 100 Paintings by Old Masters (Sedelmeyer Gallery, Paris, 1896), pp. 32-33, nos. 22, 23.
