DescriptionNoh theater robe (atsuita), for male role, with an overall design of a fish scale pattern (uroko) in dark blue and white with cart wheels (genji guruma) and half submerged cart wheels (katawaguruma) in white, blue, green, pale yellow and orange silk discontinuous supplementary patterning wefts; white plain-weave ramie (?) lining.
ProvenanceKuroda of Fukuoka Collection. By 1915, Yamanaka & Co., New York; 1915, sold by Yamanaka to the MFA, through William Sturgis Bigelow, Boston, [see note 1] for $7500 [see note 2]. (Accession date: October 7, 1915)
