ProvenanceBetween about 1750 and 1796, during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (r. 1735 -1796), kept in the Chun Hua Xuan, the main building of the Changchun Yuan imperial garden complex at the Old Summer Palace (Yuanming Yuan), Beijing. 19th century, Yu Teng (b. 1832 - d. 1890), China. 1913, with a Mr. Re, China; October 5, 1913, sold by Mr. Re to Hayasaki Kokichi (b. 1874 - d. 1956) [see note 1] and taken to Japan; December, 1913, shipped to Boston and purchased by the MFA. (Accession Date: January 8, 1914)
