Francesco de Mura was the best student of Francesco Solimena and the most important painter in Naples in the mid-eighteenth century. This oil sketch, clearly a study for a ceiling painting for a Dominican religious institution, was probably painted after about 1740, making it a fine example of De Mura’s mature style.
