DescriptionKepes, a former professor at MIT, explored the boundary between science and art. He captured the visual poetry and transcendental potential that lies within the natural world’s structures, “embracing patterns of order.” His cameraless photographs were made with a variety of experimental techniques. Here, a real leaf was placed on chemically-sensitive paper and exposed to light, leaving its imprint behind. Kepes’ passion for technological discovery later led him to aid in the development of another alternative to film: digital imagery.
