DescriptionShaped circular body raised on four scroll feet, the sides pierced and engraved with foliate scross and other rococo ornament. The rim is cast and chased with foliate, wheat ears, and scrolls along each side, with the head of Ceres. Cast swing handle chased with a stylized eagle head and putto herm at the base on each side. The center of the basket engraved with a rococo cartouche enclosing a mirrored cypher.

Marks Struck under base with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter for 1742-3) and with maker's mark of Peter Archambo I.
InscriptionsThe cypher in the ceter is unidentified.
ProvenanceDecember 15, 1981, sold by an anonymous owner at Sotheby's, New York, lot 273, where most probably bought by Alan and Simone Hartman, New York, NY; 2001, gift of Alan and Simone Hartman. (Accession date: February 21, 2001)
