DescriptionVase-shaped cup on spreading foot with elaborately cast and chased rococo ornament. The body has applied floral swags around the top, and mermaids driving chariots of sea horses, and mermen below. Two scroll handles. Domed cover with outer border of foliage.Foliate bud finial. A baron's crest applied to front and back.
Marks Struck under base with hallmarks (leopard's head, lion passant, date letter for 1737-8) and with maker's mark of John White (Grimwade no. 1735).
InscriptionsThe arms are those of King, as borne by John, 2d Lord King and Baron of Ockham (1704-1740).
ProvenanceMade for John, 2nd Lord King and Baron of Ockham (1704-40). By descent to Earl and Countess of Lovelace.
