DescriptionCircular charger with applied gadrooned edge. Center engraved with a coat of arms enclosed by the Order of the Garter.
Marks Struck on reverse with hallmarks (lion's head erased, Britannia, date letter of 1713-14) and with maker's mark of John Bache (Grimwade no. 118).
InscriptionsEngraved with the arms of Wentworth, as borne by Thomas Wentworth, Baron Raby (1672-1739), who was created Earl of Strafford in 1711 and Knight of the Garter in 1712.
Provenance1713/1714, made for Thomas Wentworth (b. 1672 – d. 1739), 1st Earl of Strafford and 3rd Baron Raby; by descent within the family; 1859, stored with other pieces of Wentworth silver at Glyn, Mills, and Co. bank, London; 1963, removed from the bank; June 27, 1963, consigned anonymously (presumably by the familial descendants of Thomas Wentworth), Sotheby's, London, lot 51.
